DOP is a café in the heart of Canberra, specialising in authentic Italian street food and artisan coffee. The word DOP stands for “Protected Designation of Origin” and is a promise to the consumer that the food is made locally, using traditional methods. The owners of DOP wanted to capture the authenticity of their new brand across venue signage, merchandise, marketing and promotional collateral. The design had to appeal to the target demographic: busy but discerning CBD workers and shoppers.
In order to stand out in a crowded market, DOP needed a clean, sophisticated, modern and simple brand approach. It had to be easily identifiable, and incorporate an existing colour and material palette. The branding also needed to be transferrable to a website, and preferably include a pattern or background that would create a reference for consumers, in place of the logo.
We collaborated with the client to create an understated brand design that incorporated a sophisticated colour palette and memorable phrase to reinforce DOP’s authentic Italian promise. Shopfront signage capitalised on the existing character of the location, drawing customers in with warmth and a tip of the hat to traditional Italian deli-style cafés.
